DEATHS
FISK – Died in Indianola, Iowa, Jan 20, 1882, Miss Martha H. Fisk, youngest daughter of Mrs. Effie Fisk. She was born in this city May 16, 1864. Her whole life was spent in this community, where she had formed many pleasant acquaintances and tender associations. At home she was agreeable, obedient and contributed her full share in making it a model home. Among her friends she exhibited that modesty and cheerfulness that always commands respect and esteem. Her life was a rare example of freedom from discontent. About two years ago, failing health compelled her to retire from college, from which time, in spite of the best medical help, she gradually declined. Sometime before her departure she viewed the final change with characteristic coolness and deliberation. She reverently bowed to the Devine will and with a vigorous faith embraced the saving truth of the gospel. Her death was a Christian triumph. She met death after two years of patient suffering with soldier-like firmness. Thus passed away this “mild and lovely” dear one. Owing to the extreme illness of her brother, Dr. J. B. Fisk, the funeral services were held at the M.E. Church last Sabbath, where a large concourse of friends and acquaintances met in sympathy with her bereaved family and followed the remains to the cemetery. “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord.” W.C. Martin
