Mary Ann Lord
(1827 – 1910)

Advocate-Tribune, Indianola, Iowa, Thurs., March 31, 2010, p.7, col.3
Mrs. Edward Lord
Mary Ann Sanderson was born at St. Johns Chapel, Weardale, Eng., in 1827. Married to Edward Lord in 1845. To them were born nine children, six sons and three daughters, three children dying infancy. The family moved to America 1865, locating in Ohio, living there until 1874, when they moved to Iowa, locating near Summerset. Her husband died Dec 12, 1906, and was buried at Carlisle. One son, John Lord, died Sept. 3, 1908, and was buried at Carlisle. “Grandma” Lord as she was familiarly called had been a member of the Methodist Church since her girlhood days, living a devoted Christian fully prepared for the Master’s call to the blessed rest that awaits the faithful. The last few years of her life she suffered from a fall which caused her to be helpless but she bore her afflictions patiently. The sympathy shown by her neighbors and friends is but an index of her noble Christian character. To know her and meet her in her house and in God’s house was a blessed inspiration. This obituary is written by one who has known her for years and we feel that her mission on earth was complete and the world and heaven is richer by her life. Her death occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bud Wickliffe, west of Carlisle. Funeral service was held at the M. E. Church Tuesday at two p.m., conducted by Rev. Brewer, after which the body was laid to rest in the Carlisle cemetery.
