Obituary
Mrs. Nancy B. McIntosh died on the 23d inst. at her brother’s down in VanBuren County. Mrs. McIntosh was a member of the M. E. Church and also of the order of the Eastern Star and Royal Neighbors. She requested that she be buried by the Eastern Star sisterhood, and her request was carried out faithfully. A number of her old friends and neighbors came up from VanBuren County, to attend her funeral. She was buried last Monday in Woodland Cemetery at Des Moines. Funeral exercises were held at Douds, Iowa and also at Des Moines. Her pall bearers were Masons and were as follows: O.K. Butler, O.C. Brown, F. M. Saddler, Adam Schimelfenig, John Cochran and Dr. C. E. Wright, her son-in-law, of Clear Lake, Iowa. A number of the Easter Star ladies from Indianola attended the funeral.
Mrs. McIntosh was an old settler of Warren County and came to Iowa in 1844, with her father, David Doud. She was married twice in her life time. Her first husband was Patrick Mines to whom she was married in 1851. He died in 1854 and in 1861 she was married to Daniel F. McIntosh and moved with him from VanBuren County to Warren County in 1861 and settled on the farm about a mile north of Summerset which they made their home until his death in 1889.
Mrs. McIntosh left four children surviving her; Mrs. Drusie Wright of Clear Lake, IA., Miss Belle McIntosh, a teacher in the city schools of Ballard, Wash., and David McIntosh, of Mexico, and Will McIntosh. Mrs. McIntosh’s death was somewhat sudden and unexpected and came as a very great surprise to all her friends and acquaintances. She was a woman of high moral qualities and of sound principle. A good mother and a good citizen and one who exercised an influence for good over a wide circle of friends and acquaintances and she will be greatly missed by all.
