Thompson Park Killed
Sympathy was expressed for Mr. and Mrs. Asa Park last Thursday evening when the word came that their son, Thompson, was killed while at work as engineer in Des Moines. The details of the accident will never be known. He was alone in the engine room and in some way became caught in the shafting of the large fly wheel and the report says he was literally crushed until his body stopped the engine and workmen from other parts of the building went to the engine room to ascertain the cause. Thompson Park was born in this county April 9, 1860, and grew to manhood here. He spent several years in Knoxville as engineer and other employment. He had been twice married and leaves two children of the first marriage and four from the second, all of whom with the mother are left to mourn his untimely death. He carried a policy of $2,000 in each the M.W.A. and M.B.A. His remains were brought here on the noon train Saturday and taken to the home of his aged parents where the funeral was held Sunday at half past two, conducted by Rev. Usley, of the Baptist church. The Woodmen conducted the services at the cemetery where the last rites were performed.[Thompson Park was buried in the Indianola IOOF Cemetery.]
