C. B. McLaughlin Earliest Pioneer
[Claudius B. McLaughlin]
Among the early Iowa pioneers who were present at the state fair last week on pioneer’s day, was C. B. McLaughlin, of Indianola, who probably came to Iowa at an earlier date than any other resident of Warren county. Mr. McLaughlin came to the Hawkeye state from New York in 1836, and has lived here continuously ever since, though he has not been a resident of Warren county during all that time. He entered the employ of the Rock Island railroad company, having been agent, among other places, at Iowa City, Brooklyn and Indianola. Two years ago he retired from railroad work, having served the Rock Island for fifty years. Mr. McLaughlin believes he is the oldest resident in Warren county.
[C. B. McLaughlin was born in 1834, died in 1915, and buried in Indianola IOOF Cemetery]
