H. Newlon rites set

Services for Harold L. "Babe" Newlon, 67, will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. William Sullivan officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Prayers for a Christian Wake will be recited at 7:30 p.m. this evening at the Raymond Funeral Home followed by The Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:45 p.m.

Newlon died at 8 a.m. Thursday at his home, 510 W. Harrison, of an apparent heart attack. He had returned home two days previously from Iowa City where he had undergone surgery the week before.

Newlon was employed at the Johnson Hardware Store for a number of years prior to his retirement due to ill health. The store will be closed Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Harold Newlon was born Jan. 30, 1913, in Fairfield and he spent his entire life in this community. He was the son of Leslie W.; and Clara H. Dempsey Newlon.

He was married Sept. 1, 1937, to Catherine Marsh in Eldon. Newlon was a veteran of World War II, a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his widow; two brothers, Emert, Branson, Mo., and Dale, Monrovia, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
