Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” Tuesday, August 16, 1938:

Ernest E. Long, 70, of 525 S. Moore died at Memorial Nursing Home Monday at 1 p.m.

The son of Ernest D. and Belle Edwards Long, he was born in Wapello County Dec. 11, 1897. He had lived in this county all his life and worked in the coal mines. He also did plumbing and heating work. He was a member of Willard Street Methodist Church.

His marriage to Hattie Pilcher took place May 14, 1917, in Ottumwa. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, George E., E. Rex., and Donald D., all of Ottumwa four daughters, Betty Gharrett of Davenport, Arlene McCoy of Albia, Marilyn Jacks of Clinton, and Nancy Buffington of Winfield; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two step-brothers, Frank and Fred Albertson of Ottumwa.

Funeral services will be at Reece Funeral Home Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. David Ash officiating.

Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery with Maurice Buchanan, Steve Brock, John Turner, Tom Songer, Ralph Emerson, and Hubert Parks serving as pallbearers. John Songer will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
