Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” June 4, 1982:

Mary J. Childs, 73, of 827 Boone Ave., died at 2:55 a.m. today, June 4, in her home.

She was born Sept. 6, 1908, in Moulton to Orton and Alice Stockton Moore. She married Leon H. Childs July 8, 1929, in Kirksville, Mo. He died in 1972.

Survivors: daughters Claire Johnson and Yolanda Osteen of Ottumwa; son Bobbie Tharp of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother Clair Moore of Hesperia, Calif.; and sister Marie Davison of Moulton.

Service: 3 p.m. Monday at Johnson Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Jim Pickens, Blakesburg Christian Church, officiating. Burial: Shaul Cemetery. Pallbearers: H.A. Ward, Everett Thompson, Jim Pickens, Alan Pilcher, Joe McDonald and Doug Mathias.

The casket will be closed at the beginning of the service.

Memorial: Blakesburg Christian Church.

Visitation: after 12 noon Saturday.
