Russell Edward Shamblin, 93, of Fairfield died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at the Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

The funeral will be 2 p.m., Thursday at Behner Funeral Home, with the Rev. Howard Innis officiating. Burial will be at the Richland Friends Cemetery near Richland.

Visitation for family and friends will be 1-2 p.m., prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Richland Library. Cards and memorials can be sent to 702 Hillside Drive, Fairfield 52556.

Mr. Shamblin was born Oct. 28, 1920, in Danville, the son of Charles and Hazel Williamson Shamblin. He married Eva Cox June 18, 1944, at Richland Friends Church. She died Nov. 1, 2004.

Mr. and Mrs. Shamblin lived in the Fairfield most of their married life. Mr. Shamblin worked at Zillmans, Jefferson Motor Co. and Fairfield Toyota for a total of 54 years as a body man.

After retirement, he loved going to the coffee club held at the Fairfield Hy-Vee Food Store. He looked forward every year to riding in the Kiwanis Kids' Day parade. At the end of the day, he loved to sit on his front porch and watch the people go by. He loved to refinish antique cars and antique picture frames.

In 1973, Mr. Shamblin was chosen as Man of the Year.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Virgil Shamblin.
