Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” Thursday, August 7, 1947:

John M. Stewart, 82, a former Ottumwan, died Wednesday at the Burlington hospital in Burlington.

Born January 17, 1865, in Drakesville, he lived for many years in Ottumwa where he was an employe of the Burlington railroad.

Mr. Stewart is survived by his wife, Carrie Vinson Stewart, sister of Dr. H.W. Vinson of Ottumwa; and two grandchildren, Mrs. Ernest Bacon of Long Beach, Calif., and Robert Bruce Smith of Ardmore, Pa.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Melva Stewart Smith.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Burnett & Wallen funeral home in Burlington. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery here.
