Helen Newman

Helen L. Newman, 79, of Canoga Park, Calif., died at 8:40 a.m. Sunday, May 16, 1993, in Reseda, Calif.

Born Nov. 28, 1913, at Milton, she was the daughter of Isaac and Florence Brouse and Brewer. She married Ralph Newman, who died January 27, 1960.

She was a graduate of Biggsville, Ill. High School and attended Gem City Business College, Quincy, Ill. She and her husband farmed in the rural Smithshire, Ill. area for a number of years. Following her husband's death, she moved to Canoga, Park, Calif., where she worked as a bookkeeper. While she lived in Illinois, she was active with Bethel Lutheran Church, Stronghurst.

Survivors include a daughter, Marlene Van Order of Canoga Park, Calif.; two sisters, Olive Irwin of Newhall, Calif., and Irmal Gibb of Biggsville, Ill.; a granddaughter; and two great grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.

A graveside committal service for Mrs. Newman was held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Biggsville Cemetery with the Rev. John Irwin officiating.

A memorial has been established for Bethel Lutheran Church, Stronghurst,, Ill.
