Walter G. Arfmann

Walter G. Arfmann was born 20, 1926 to Walter Martin and Stella (Karloff) Armann of Yutan, Nebraska.

Walter passed away on Friday, January 11, 1991 at the Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, Neb. at the age of 64. At an early age he moved to Neola, Iowa with his family. Walt was a graduate of Neola High School, where he was active in sports. He also played semi-pro baseball and basketball. After graduating Walt entered the U.S. Army and served his country in Europe during World War 2. Walt returned from the service and (wernt) to work for Dale Ratcliff in the coal mines of southeast Iowa. At this time he met his future wife Shirley Jean Ratcliff, they were married on August 6, 1950. They moved to Bridgeport, Neb. and Walt became the superintendent of the utilities department, in 1959 they moved to Cozad, Neb. to do the same. In 1974 they left for Lincoln, Neb. and Walt worked for the League in Nebraska Municipalities, then on to Kemmerer, Wyoming to be a manage of another (untility). In 1986 while in Wyoming his wife Shirley died. Upon his retirement Walt moved to Minden, Neb., then back to work for the League.

He was a member of the Lutheran Church and the Elks Lodge.

Walt was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Survivors include two sons, Greg, his wife Vicki and their three children, Brooke, Abbie and Sara of Crete, Neb., Matt, his wife Clara and their two children Justin and Lacey of Axtell, Neb., two brothers, Leon of Ralston, Neb. and Robert of Bermuda Run, North Carolina and one sister Harriett Gallup of Council Bluffs, Iowa.

A memorial fund has been established.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 14, 1991 at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Axtell, Neb. with Rev. Helmut Yurk officiating. Additional services were held Wednesday, January 16, 1991 at 2 p.m. at the Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, Iowa with (Rrev.) Stephen Metcalf-Conte officiating. Burial was in Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Douds.
