Elmer H. "Brownie" Burch, 86, of Fairfield died at 9:10 a.m. June 5, 1991, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.
He was born Dec. 6, 1904, in Arnold, Nebr., to William M. and Anna Burch. He married Anna Cocherell in 1934. She died in 1972. He married Refa M. (Teal) Gaines on Dec. 9, 1982, in Memphis, Mo.
He graduated from high school in Nebraska and from Fort Madison Business College. He worked in construction for Van Buren County, had been a police officer in Fairfield and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a security officer for Lockhead Corp. in California until retiring in 1968 and moved to Fairfield in 1972. He was a member of Birmingham United Methodist Church, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Elks Lodge, and Clinton Masonic Lodge No. 15.
He is survived by his wife; and two stepsons, Richard Reddick of Cedar Rapids and Ivan Reddick of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers and six sisters.
A Masonic graveside service conducted by Clinton Lodge no. 15 was held Friday, June 7, 1991 at 2:30 p.m. in Maple Hill Cemetery at Birmingham, with the Rev. Sara Malone officiating. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
Burch-Raymond Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
