Margaret Johnson

Margaret Johnson, 94, Des Moines died Wednesday, July 16, 1986 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. She was born in Bonaparte to Joseph and Mary Welch Johnson.

Miss Johnson was retired from her position as vice president of First Federal State Bank. She spent 57 years of her life in Des Moines and worked in banking for 51 years, a record exceeded by only one other Iowa woman, Elizabeth Laurinson of Keokuk, who retired after working 58 years for the same bank, according to records of the Iowa Bankers Association. She was Iowa's first woman to be named a bank officer and perhaps one of the country's first.

She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church and Central Guild.

There are no immediate survivors. A memorial service was held Friday, July 18, 1986 at Central Presbyterian with burial in Bonaparte.
