C. Thornton rites Saturday

MOUNT PLEASANT - Claude Thornton, 75, died at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at his rural Mount Pleasant home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Beatty-Wilkins Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant with the Rev. Glen Richard officiating. Burial with full military rites will be in Hillsboro Cemetery. Friends may call as they desire at the funeral home.

Thornton was born June 18, 1911 near Hillsboro, the son of John and Margaret Shamblin Thornton. On Feb. 12, 1972 at Mount Pleasant, he married Wilma Messer. He served in the Army during World War II and retired from the food service department at the Mental Health Institute in Mount Pleasant.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Albert of Hillsboro; three daughters, Christine Jayne, Claudia Thornton, Rhonda Fetterman, all of Mount Pleasant; two grandsons; three step-grandchildren; three sisters, Nora Thornton, Roberta Boitscha, both of Hillsboro, and Clara Hughes of Winfield.
