Edward Pickering

Edward Pickering, son of Orville and Cora Fye Pickering, was born October 2, 1898 near Ollie and departed this life early the morning of Sunday, July 28, 1986 at his home in Keosauqua at the age of 87.

In 1921 he married Winona Romine. To this union three children were born, William, Leon and Lucille. William and Leon both lost their lives in World War II. Lucille married Don Emerton who is deceased.

He married Helen Riley in November, 1930. She died in May, 1932. On July 6, 1933 he married Margaret Streeter who preceded him in death January 3, 1971.

Surviving are his daughter, Lucille Emerton, San Diego, California; two grandsons, William and Michael Emerton, San Diego, California and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters, Edith Hall, Sacramento, California, Daisy McIntire, Fairfield, Blanche Woodard, Cassadaga, Florida, and Lois Syfert, Keosauqua.

"Pete" owned a trucking business in Ollie for 24 years and was also associated with the sale barn there for a time. He was a partner in the Keosauqua Sale Co. for 16 years, later working part time for Lester Hohl at the fertilizer plant and for the Van Buren County Assessor.

He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Ottumwa, a life member of the Elks Lodge in Fairfield, and was a 65 year member of the Justice Lodge No. 230, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons at Ollie, having served as lodge secretary for 24 years. he had been mayor of Ollie and served several years on the town council.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 30, 1985 at 1 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua with the Rev. Don Morrison officiating. Interment with Masonic rites by Justice Lodge was in Rock Creek Cemetery near Ollie. A memorial was established for the Ollie Masonic Building Fund.
