Maxine Meredith

Maxine Marie Meredith, 60, of 3554 N. McLean died at 7:15 a.m. March 28, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

She was born Oct. 18, 1925, in Rutland to Major and Hazel Law Richardson. She married James Meredith Sr. on April 21, 1946, in Bloomfield. They operated Jim's Transfer until his death on Oct. 27, 1983, and she continues the operation until August 1985.

She is survived by six daughters, Jo Ann Masters of Littleton, Colo., Jerry Hall of Dumas, Texas, Marcia Reynolds of Fort Smith, Ark., and Janette Caudron, Janine Meredith and Barbara Morgan of Ottumwa; two sons, James L. Meredith Jr. of Independence, Mo., and Jesse Meredith at home; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Brooks of Brooklyn; and three brothers, Robert Richardson of Tempe, Ariz., Merle Richardson of Milton and David Richardson of Fairfield.

The service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home, the Rev. A.D. Pringle of Ottumwa Baptist Temple officiating.

Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Paullbearers(err) will be Vernon and Sean Six, Dennis Brooks, Tom Richardson, John Estle and John Robey.

A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society in care of Florence DeBuhr, 3 Carter Court Lane.
