John Clyde Hoaglin

John Clyde Hoaglin, son of Charles F. and Melissa Boley Hoaglin, was born June 15, 1888 in Hillsboro and died Saturday, Sept. 29, 1984, at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 96. He lived his entire life in the Hillsboro community. For a number of years he was associated with the Hoaglin General Store. In 1940, he retired from the store and devoted his time to farming and raising purebred Polled Hereford cattle. He was a member of the Hillsboro Christian Church and a 50-year Mason in Belmont Lodge NO. 541, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons in Hillsboro.

On Nov. 6, 1912 Mr. Hoaglin married Beulah Douglas who died in 1948. He was also preceded in death by a son, Vinton, and three brothers, Mark, Frank and Joe. Remaining are two sons, Clifford and his wife Verla of Mt. Pleasant and Donald Dean and his wife Reva of Hillsboro, Vinton's widow, Irene of Hillsboro, ten grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, Harry in Florida, William, Mt. Pleasant, C.F., Hillsboro, a sister, Eva Harlan, Hillsboro, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 2, 1984 at 2 p.m. in the Hillsboro Christian Church, with Pastor David Callen officiating. Interment with Masonic rites by Belmont Lodge was in Hillsboro Cemetery. A memorial was established for the Cancer Fund. Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua was in charge of arrangements.
