ORVILLE K. WHITCANACK

Orville Keith Whitcanack, son of John and Della Doan Whitcanack, was born July 16, 1917 near Cantril and departed this life the evening of Thursday, October 18, 1984 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 67.

On May 10, 1942 he married Mary Louise Leavitt in Yuma, Arizona. She survives. Also surviving are two sisters, Marie Hughes of Cantril and Verda Parmelee of Los Angeles, California; three brothers, Hollis and Richard of Arcadia, California and Dale of East Moline, Illinois; nieces and nephews. A sister, Helen Carnahan and two brothers, Delbert and Glen preceded him in death.

Orville served in the Army Air Force during World War II, after which he operated a service station with his brother-in-law, Myrl Leavitt, in Washington, Iowa. He later was an investments salesman for a number of years and farmed south of Cantril, retiring to town in 1978. He was a member of the Eighth Air Force Historical Society and had been a Legionnaire.

Funeral services were held Sunday, October 21, 1984 at 2 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with Rev. Charles Butler officiating. Interment was in the Lebanon Cemetery with military rites by Russell-Strait Post No. 483, American Legion, Milton. A memorial was established for the Hear fund.

Orville K. Whicananck

CANTRIL - Orville K. Whicanack, 67, suffered a heart attack at his home in Cantril, Thursday, Oct. 18, and died in the emergency room of Van Buren County Hospital at Keosauqua at 8:18 p.m.

He was born to John and Della Doan Whitcanack on July 16, 1917, near Cantril. He served in the Air Force in World War II and operated a service station at Washington, later becoming an investments salesman. He also farmed south of Cantril, retiring and moving to town in 1978.

Mr. Whitcanack married Mary Louise Leavitt May 10, 1942, in Yuma, Ariz. He was a member of the Eighth Air Force Historical Society.

Surviving: His wife; two sisters, Verda Parmelee, Los Angeles, and Marie Hughes, Cantril; and three brothers, Richard and Hollis Whitcanack, both of Arcadia, Calif., and Dale Whitcanack, East Moline, Ill.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Sunday at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, the Rev. Charles Butler; Lebanon Cemetery. A Heart Fund memorial has been established.
