ROY M. SANDFORD

Word has been received of the death on Sunday, September 2, 1984 of a former Bonaparte resident, Roy M. Sandford. He was born in Canton, Illinois on January 15, 1910, son of the Charles E. Mary Smith Sandford.

On July 22, 1939 in Keosauqua, he was married to Lucille M. Waters. Beside his wife, he is survived by a brother, Albert of Lewiston, Illinois, nephews Don and Bob Sandford, cousins Madge and Scott Smith and Wilma Henry. He was preceded in death by a sister Agnes Holmes, two brothers Wallace and Eugene.

He was employed by Admiral Division of Magic Chef for 20 years and was in real estate sales for seven years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of the Central Congregational Church, Vesper Masonic Lodge #584, American Legion Post #285, Elks Lodge #894, and the Moline Consistory, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2257 and the first World War II veteran to be its commander.

The funeral was held Wednesday, September 5, 1984 at 11:30 a.m. in the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel with the Rev. David Campbell officiating. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery at Canton, Illinois.
