LAVANCHIE M. BENEDICT

Lavanchie M. Benedict, daughter of Ezra and Stella McGowan Bartholomew, was born June 9, 1903, at Cantril and departed this life Friday January 30, 1981, at Klein Memorial Hospital in Burlington at the age of 77.

She graduated from Keosauqua High School and the State University of Iowa school of nursing. She had served as assistant superintendent of nursig(err) at University Childre's(err) Hospital in Iowa City and did extensive home nursing in Van Buren County.

On November 3, 1928, she married Russell Benedict at Farmington, where they spent most of their married life. Mr. Benedict died in 1964. Two brothers and two sisters also preceded her in death.

Remaining to cherish her memory are a daughter, Pat McManis of Minneapolis, Minn., two sons, Joe of Burlington and Jim of Farmington, seven grandchildren and a great granddaughter. Also surviving are four sisters, Eliza Gordon and Alena Ganes, both of Bonaparte and Kate Arnold and Madeline Huff, both of Keosauqua; two brothers, Oscar and Clark Bartholomew, both of Puyallop, Washington, a number of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was a member of the Bonaparte American Legion Auxiliary.

Funeral services were held on Monday, February 2, 1981, at 2 P.M. in the Center Chapel United Methodist Church, with Rev. Paul Knupp officiating. Nephews served as honorary and active pallbearers.

Interment was in Center Chapel Cemetery. A memorial was established for the Center Chapel Church. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua.
