GEORGE DEN BESTEN
George B. Den Besten, son of Cornelius and Katherine Van Nimwegen Den Besten, was born November 12, 1896 in Chicago, Illinois and departed this life Wednesday July 29, 1981, at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age 84.
He lived near Burlington and moved to his present farm home on Highway 16 between Douds and Birmingham in the early 1940's.
He was single. Cousins James Van Ginkel of Atlantic, Lawrence and Ruth Lautenbach, both of Pella, Marie Durkin, Pensacola, Florida, and Robert Van Minwegen, and neighbors and friends survived.
George spent his life farming and raising livestock and was devoted to their care. He will be remembered as a good neighbor and friend.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 31, 1981, at 10 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with Rev. Harold Harryman officiating. Pallbearers were Wayne Hootman, Duane Gates, Kenneth Knecht, Kenneth Countryman, Dean Goemaat, and Lawrence Benge. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery, Pella.
