MRS. JEAN THARP

Mrs. Jean Tharp, 73, of Gilman, died Friday evening at the Grinnell General Hospital where she had been a patient for the past two weeks.

Born Dec. 5, 1907 at Pella, Iowa, she was the daughter of Ned and Gertrude Klein DeReus. She received her education in the Pella Schools.

On Feb. 23, 1929 at Wilton Junction she was married to Carroll E. Tharp. After this time they made their home in Pella where she was a beautician. They shared the rest of their lives together in school administration in Pleasant Plain, Richland, Schaller, Farmington and Gilman.

Preceeding her in death were her husband in 1979, parents and one brother.

Surving are one son Richard of Greene, Iowa and one daughter Sally (Mrs. Roger) McConnell of Spencer, Iowa, two grandchildren, Rodney and Robby McConnell and two brothers, Harold DeReus of Des Moines and Marion DeReus of Pella.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27 at the Gilman United Methodist Church with pastor Donald Scheller officiating. Burial was in the Prairie View Cemetery.
