Irvin M. "Bill" Tschantz, 77, of Whittier, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Monday evening in his home. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, Murdoch Funeral Home, Marion, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today. Burial: Riverside Cemtery, Anamosa.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; a son, Robert of rural Whittier; and a daughter, Mary Kathryn Hermanstorfer of Tulsa, Okla.

Also surviving are six grandchildren and three great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and three sisters.

Born the son of Christian and Henrietta Bickel Tschantz on Aug. 10, 1915, in Pulaski, he married Mary Nelson there on July 31, 1937. Mr. Tschantz was employed as a postal clerk for the U.S. Postal Service for 22 years until his retirement. He served with the Army in World War II.

The Rev. Clark Vincent will officiate. A memorial fund has been established.
