MARIETTA SCHAFER

Marietta Schafer, daughter of Sam and Viola Pruett Strait, was born May 17, 1920, in Troy, and departed this life Wednesday, June 25, 1980, at her home in Milton at the age of 60. Her life was spent in the Milton area.

She was married to George Moffett, who died in 1946. In 1950 she married Charles J. Schafer. He remains to cherish her memory. Also surviving are seven daughters, Violet Powell, Burlington; Nancy Gardner, Selma; Georgia Shephard, Camanche; Charlotte Richardson, Burlington; Becky Brady, Oscada, Michigan; Freda Mayer, Fairfield; and Faye Ann Schafer a student at Norfolk Christian College, Norfolk, Nebr. She also leaves three sons, Joe Moffett, Manchester, Mo.; Ray Moffett, Burlington, and Charles Schafer, Jr., Fairfield; two brothers, William Strait, Milton, and Maurice Strait, Golden, Colo., 18 grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Marietta had been employed as a homemaker for senior citizens in Van Buren County for the past 15 years.

She was a member of the Milton Christian Church and associated with the Iowa Junior Miss Pageant in Ottumwa.

She will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother, a good neighbor and friend to all with whom she came in contact.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 28, 1980 at 10 A.M. at the Milton Christian Church with Rev. Richard Falletti, pastor, officiating. Interment was in Sunnyside Cemetery at Milton. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds. A memorial was established.
