HOLLIS SCOTT SAAR

Hollis Scott Saar, 82, of Cantril died December 28, 1981 at the Bloomfield, Iowa Hospital. He had been in failing health for several months.

He was born January 10, 1899 at Cantril, Iowa to John and Stella Saar. He spent most of his life in Cantril. He married Mary Dyer of Pleasantville March 5, 1922.

He farmed several years until his appointment as Postmaster at Cantril in 1934, which position he held until his retirement in July 1968. He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church at Cantril. Also a member of the American Legion, the Masons and the Cantril Lions Club.

Survivors are his wife, Mary and four daughters: Mrs. Jean Dahms of Donnellson, Mrs. Jane Annis of Bristol, Conn., Mrs. Dorothy Augspurger of Henderson, Nev. and Mrs. Hollie Volpp of Fresno, Calif. There are also 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: John Bennett Saar and Dr. J.L. Saar. Other survivors are five sisters: Mrs. Bernice Harbidge and Mrs. Ruby Harbidge of Ontario, Cal., Mrs. Rilla B. McComb of Milton, Mrs. Sara Smythe of Fort Dodge and Mrs. Marguerite Earenfight of 29 Palms, Calif.

Funeral services were held Thursday, December 31, 1981 at 11 a.m. at the Cantril United Methodist Church with Rev. Edward Kail officiating. Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery at Cantril. A memorial has been established for his church and contributions may be left at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua.
