Velma Marie Nelson

Velma Marie Nelson was born near Riverside, Iowa, May 16, 1899, the daughter of John and Nora Dyson Hunter, and passed away February 28, 1980, at the Scotland County Memorial Hospital.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Memphis.

On June 29, 1920, she was married to Gus Nelson. To this union three children were born.

Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy Barnhill of Aurora, Colorado and Doris Krieger of Ft. Madison, Iowa; Six grandchildren, Becky Ellis, Sue Visser, Mike Krisger(err), Steve Barnhill, Doug Nelson and Greg Nelson; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Mabel Baird of Keokuk, Iowa; two brothers, Gale Hunter of Memphis, Missouri, and John Jr. Hunter of Kirksville, Missouri.

Preceding her in death were her husband and one son, Neil, her parents and four brothers, Ernest, Glen, Howard and Homer.

She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She had a cheerful and sunny disposition which with her sterling traits of character won her many friends.

Funeral Services were conducted by Payne-Gerth from the United Methodist Church in Memphis, on Monday, March 3, 1980, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Neil Dubach officiating. The organist was Mary Belle Greeno. Pall bearers were Lonel Henderson, Donald O'Day, John Cook, Freddie Henderson, Rex Coffrin and Harry Robeson. Interment was in the Memphis Cemetery.
