Nelson Jacob Gordy

Nelson Gordy, 82, of Downing, Mo. died Sunday, Sept. 4, 1983 at the Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Missouri. He was the son of Jacob and Molly O'Dell Gordy. He was born in Schuyler County, Missouri, November 17, 1900. In 1921 he was married to Alice McVey, who preceded him in death in April of 1965. Also preceding him in death was a daughter, Norma jean; one sister, Ona, and a brother, George.

Surviving are two daughters, Leona Riddinger of Royal Oak, Mich.; Betty Forester of Bellevue, Wash.; one son, Bobby Gordy of Cytheana, Ky.; six grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ora Jones of Bloomfield, Iowa; Mildred McDaniel of Costa Mesa, Calif.; Alice Schloff of Des Moines, Iowa, two brothers Oren Gordy of Toppenish, Wash., and Ed Gordy of Costa Mesa, Calif.

Gordy farmed in Schuyler County all of his life. He then moved in to Downing and worked on the County Road District for 20 years. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 6, 1983, at the Norman Funeral Chapel in Downing with Rev. Lowell Newland officiating and interment in the Barker Cemetery.
