George Gordy

George Gordy, the son of Jacob and Mollie Ruth O'Dell Gordy, was born March 10, 1894, in Scotland County, Missouri. He died Saturday, September 20, 1980, in the Scotland County Memorial Hospital, Memphis, Missouri, where he had been a patient only a short time. He was 86 years old.

On February 10, 1915, he married Vera Mae McClain, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was one sister, Ona Robinson.

Surviving are two children, Mrs. Joe (Inez) Scott, Brookfield, Iowa, and Leonard Gordy, Amarillo, Texas; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and six brothers and sisters, Nelson Gordy, Downing, Missouri, Oren Gordy of the state of Washington, Ed Gordy of Costa Mesa, California, Mildred McDaniel, Costa Mesa, California; Alice Schloff, Sioux Rapids, Iowa, and Ora Jones, Bloomfield, Iowa.

Mr. Gordy spent most of his life in Scotland and Schuyler Counties. He was engaged in farming and was in the grocery business before his retirement.

He was a member of Barker Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, September 23, 1990, in Norman Funeral Chapel in Downing, Missouri. The Rev. Lowell Newland of Downing conducted the services. Burial was in Barker Cemetery northeast of Downing. Body bearers were Aubrey Alexander, Harold Ketchum, Darrell Phillips, Victor Pryor, Raymond Mullinix and Herbert Garrett.
