IVEN H. CHAPLIN

Iven H. Chaplin, son of John and Elsie Darnell Chaplin, was born on April 25, 1923 in Bloomfield, Iowa near Troy, Iowa. He passed away after a brief illness on July 26, 1977 at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield, Iowa at the age of 54 years.

On March 4, 1945 he was united in marriage to Mary Wells and to this union 3 sons were born.

In 1941 Iven graduated from the Troy Consolidated schools. Iven worked 18 years at the American Chain and Cable Company in Fairfield, Iowa, but his main life work was farming, working with livestock, cows, hogs and horses, raising quarter horses for most of his life.

He was member of the Troy United Methodist Church, the Odd Fellows Lodge of Troy, the Van Buren County Fair Board, the Pork Producers Organization, the 26-89 Saddle, Horse Club, and past president of the Southeast Iowa Quarter Horse Association. He also served as a judge at horse shows for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Those who survive include his wife, Mary, three sons, Michael of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Larry and daughter-in-law, Lory of Bloomfield, Iowa and Monty, a student at Ames, Iowa, 2 sisters, Leta Chance of Ottumwa, Iowa and Neva Gardner of Troy, Iowa, three brothers, Vern of Troy, Iowa Forrest of Ottumwa, Iowa and Lloyd of Chariton, Iowa and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and neighbors.

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 29, 1977 at 2:00 P.M. at the Troy United Methodist Church with Dr. Carl Wilson officiating.

Burial was in the Troy Cemetery at Troy, Iowa.

The Wellborn Funeral Home of Milton had charge of arrangements.
