Orville A. Roberts

Orville Alton Roberts, son of George and Nancy Mustard Roberts, was born Dec. 16, 1889 near Troy and departed this life Thurs., Nov. 13, 1969, at his home in Troy at the age of 79.

His entire life was lived in the Troy community. He and his sister, Amy, lived on the home farm northeast of Troy until they retired and moved to town in 1966.

Remaining to mourn his passing are 4 sisters, Mrs. Nellie Howells who lived with mr. Roberts in Troy, Mrs. Jewell Brooks also of Troy, Mrs. Lena Matt of LaPorte City and Mrs. Ruth Buckles of Douds, two brothers, Vernette Roberts of Bloomfield and Edwin Roberts of Worthington, Minn., nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. His sister, Amy, and brother, Walter, and 2 infant sisters and 2 infant brothers preceded him in death.

Orville was a regular attendant at the Troy United Methodist Church and was a member of Troy Lodge No. 40, ancient free and accepted Masons. He will be remembered as a good citizen and a good neigrbor(sp), who did his part to make his community a better place in which to live. His faithfulness to this family and friends and to those ideals which he held in high esteem will live on as a goal worthy of emulation by all who knew him.

Funeral services were Sunday, Nov. 16, 1969 at 2 P.M. at the Troy United Methodist Church, with the Rev. J.E. McClellan, pastor, officiating. Vocalists were Mrs. Keith A. Smith and Mrs. Robert Pedrick, accompanied by Mrs. Max Caves. Pall bearers were Russell Brooks, Venus Roberts, Arlo Roberts, George W. Roberts, Rex Roberts, Howard Buckles, Harold Brooks, and Robert Matt, nephews of Mr. Roberts. Interment was in the Troy Cemetery, with Masonic graveside rites in charge of Troy Lodge No. 40. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home.
