Charles R. Younker

Charles Raymond Younker, 62, died at the Davis County Hospital Oct. 13, 1969 at 5 a.m. He was born Jan. 2, 1907 at Indianola, Iowa, the son of Orpheus and Cordelia Parrott Younker.

Charles was a graduate of the Ft. Madison Business College. He was a former manager of the Milton Feed, Seed and Grain store, was a former manager and owner of the Texaco DX gas station in Milton and for the past four years has been cashier of the State Savings Bank, a branch of the State Savings Bank, a branch of the State Savings Bank of Cantril. He was a member of the Friends Church of Ackworth, Iowa, a member of the Russell Ackworth, Iowa, a member of the Russell Strait Post No. 483 of Milton. A veteran of World War II he served in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant of the 1631 Construction Battalion from 1943-1945 at which time he received an honorable discharge.

On Sept. 19, 1927 he was united in marriage to Velma Carpenter, who survives, as well as a son, Jim Younker and wife of Bloomfield; three grandchildren, Tim, Kip and Scott. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Olive Palencia of Van Couver, Canada and Mrs. Maxine Sidwell of LeClaire, Iowa; five brothers, Emil of Pocahontas, Ark., Jim of Indianola, Iowa, Cleo and Donald of Milton; other relatives and friends.

A Memorial has been established for the United Methodist Church in Milton and the Russell-Strait Post of Milton.

Funeral services were held Oct. 15 at the Milton Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Harold Harryman of Newton and James D. McKean of Milton. Military rites were in charge of Russell-Strait Post. Wellborn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
