Samuel L. Kunzman

Samuel L. Kunzman, 67, prominent Selma farmer, died at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, at the Ottumwa Hospital in Ottumwa. He had been hospitalized several weeks in September and October and re-entered the hospital Nov. 9.

The son of Charley and Retta Roush Kunzman, he was born Oct. 6, 1901, near Douds. On Oct. 31, 1923, he was married to Elva Kendrick, at Floris. Their married life was spent in Douds and Selma.

Surviving are his widow; a daughter, Pauline Parks of Clinton; two sons, Wallace of Alburquerque(err), N.M., and Charley of Selma; seven grandchildren; and five sisters, Ruth Glassford of Ottumwa, Emma Koogler of Douds, Bessie Dooley of Selma, Berniece Hamilton of Eldon, and Marjorie Roush, of Ottumwa.

He was a member of the Methodist Church, the Knights of Pythias at Douds, and the Odd Fellows at Eldon.

He had served in numerous civic capacities, including membership on the Selma Church board, the Selma school and telephone boards and the Van Buren County ASC Committee.

A memorial has been established payable to the Cancer Society.

The funeral was held Friday, Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. at Christ Methodist Church in Douds with the Rev. David Pease of Quincy, Ill., former pastor, and the Rev. Dennis Nicholson, pastor, officiating. Burial was held in Leando Cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home at Douds.
