MRS. ARTHUR HAYDEN

Mrs. Clara R. Hayden, daughter of H. Albert and Mary Ellen Hughes Brown, was born January 22, 1889 near Eldon and departed this life Tuesday Nov. 19, at the Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 79.

On April 27, 1910, she was married to Arthur J. Hayden at her parent's home near Eldon. Their married life has been lived in the Selma-Eldon community.

Remaining to mourn her passing are her husband; a son, Rex and daughter-in-law, Ruth, of Eldon; a daughter, Frances and son-in-law, Garold Hughes of Selma; four grandchildren, Mrs. James Wainscott, Arden Hughes, Mrs. Fred Thomas and Mrs. Mike Hughes; seven great-grandchildren, David and Bruce Wainscott, Mark, Scott and Marla Thomas; other relatives and many friends. Three brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.

Mrs. Hayden was an active member of the Selma Methodist Church and a charter member of the Woman's Society of Christian Service of which she was a past president. She had served in numerous church offices and for many years was a Sunday School teacher. She had also served as president of the Selma Community Club.

She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother and as one who was always willing and ready to do her part in the work of her church and community.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 21 at 2 p.m. at the Selma Methodist Church with the Rev. Dennis Nicholson officiating. Interment was in the Iowaville Cemetery.
