OBITUARIES

JAMES L. MCLELAND

James Loring McLeland, 50, passed away at Memorial Hospital, April 20, at 4:5 a.m. after being admitted Monday night. In failing health a year, he entered University Hospital in Iowa City in October of 1965. While he was there he underwent three major surgical operations during November for brain and lung tumors and other complications. He returned home in December where at times it seemed he was recovering satisfactorily. He fought a determined battle against cancer with the aid of many medical and loving hands.

Born June 2, 1915, at Milton, he was the son of Harvey L. and Ida Starr McLeland. He graduated from Cantril High Schoo. His marriage to Valera Hervey took place December 24, 1938 in Fairfield.

Besides his widow, survivors include four sons, James H. of Altoona, Vern of Ottumwa, Kenneth and Jerry at home; a daughter, Shirley of Council Bluffs, one grandson, Tony of Altoona. Three brothers, Leith of Ottumwa, Craig of Arbela, Mo., and Robert of Milton; and three sisters, Mrs. Amel Younker of Pocahontas, Ark., Mrs. Guy Ornduff and Mrs. J.C. Robinson, both of Milton, also aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Mr. McLeland had been a farmer, salesman, and in recent years an insurance agent. He was a member of the Methodist Church. A devoted husband and father and helpful to his many relatives and friends.

Services were held Friday, April 22 at the Keosauqua Methodist Church with the Rev. Aldreth V. Weigel officiating. Burial was in Cantril Cemetery. Catcott Funeral Home conducted the services.
