Automobile Crash Kills Mt. Sterling Woman May 6th

The body of 21-year-old Sandra Cochran of Mt. Sterling was found at 5:30 Friday morning, May 6 in Clark county, Missouri. She had been killed in an automobile accident some time after leaving the Dryden plant at Keokuk, where she was employed, officers stated.

The body and wrecked car were found by two Mt. Sterling girls on their way to work at the Dryden plant, Vercie Thornsberry and Deah Woodrum.

Officers said the woman, apparently alone in the car at the time of the accident, probably went to sleep at the wheel. The accident happened near the Russell Gordy farm, on a blacktop road.

Miss Cochran had left the plant at midnight.

She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Cochran of Mt. Sterling and was born Sept. 4, 1944. She was a 1962 graduate of Van Buren Community high school.

Surviving are her parents; a daughter, Beth; and brothers, Ronnie, David, James and Emmett, all at home; also a grandmother, Mrs. William Wolfe, and a great-grandmother, Mrs. Olive Wolfe, both of Mt. Sterling.

A brother, Roger W. Cochran, was electrocuted last July 11 while repairing an electric pump in the Mt. Sterling area.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, May 9 at the Mt. Sterling Methodist Church with Rev. Herbert Phillips in charge. Burial was in Harness Cemetery near Mt. Sterling.
