WILLAIM WELLBORN JR.

MILTON - William Willis Wellborn Jr., 65, a Milton funeral director, died about 5:40 p.m. Feb. 1 at St. Joseph Hospital in Ottumwa.

He was born May 31, 1912, in Cantril to William Willis Sr. and Emma Griffeth Wellborn. He had owned and operated the Wellborn Funeral Home in Milton for 25 years. He was previously dean of the Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in Nashville, Tenn. He had also worked at Curls Funeral Home in Bloomfield and Dunn's Funeral Home in Des Moines.

He was a graduate of Cantril High School, the Bloomfield junior college, Univeristy of Iowa and Hohenschuh Carpenter College of Mortuary Science.

He was a World War II veteran, member of Masonic Lodge of Cantril, Order of Eastern Star of Milton, Milton Christian Church, the Lions Club and had served on the Milton school board and Van Buren County Hospital Board.

He married Martha Hill on May 9, 1937, at Bloomfield. She died in 1971. He later married Clara Mae Epperly Aug. 11, 1975.

Survivors: his wife; daughters Joyce Lunsford of Fremont and Ramona Hall of Des Moines; stepchildren Gary Epperly of Austin, Texas, and Jeanne Baskett of Breckenridge, Mo.; two grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren; and sisters Cleda Wellborn of Cedar Rapids, Donna McFadden of Minneapolis, Minn., Maxine Keeler of Ottumwa and Iona Dodds of Burlington.

Services: Sunday at 2 p.m. in Milton. Arrangements: Priester Funeral Chapel in Bloomfield. Burial: Sunnyside Cemetery in Milton. A memorial has been established.
