WILLIS G. BEER

Willis G. Beer, son of Andrew J. and Emma Stevens Beer, was born August 21, 1892, near Keosauqua, and departed this life on September County Memorial Hospital at the age of 83. He had been in the hospital the past five weeks.

On May 17, 1913, he was united in marriage to Pearl L. Rankin. She preceded him in death in December, 1971. A brother, Kenneth, and two sisters, Mrs. Reta Brewster and Mrs. Minnie Aylor, also preceded him in death.

Remaining to cherish his memory are a daughter, Mrs. Beryl Loeffler of Keosauqua, three sons, Keith of Strawberry Point, Craig of Ames, and Stanley of Keosauqua, a sister, Miss Ora Beer of Keosauqua, 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

Mr. Beer spent his entire life in the Keosauqua community, farming the Beer homestead near the Center Chapel Church until his retirement. he had resided in the Hotel Manning since November, 1973.

He concentrated on dairy farming during his active farming years, and was a charter board member of the Keosauqua Cooperative Creamery. He remaining active on the creamery board for approximately 25 years. A life-long member of the Center Chapel United Methodist Church, he took an active interest in the church program and maintenance of the church and cemetery.

He will be remembered as a devoted family man, a good neighbor and friend, who did his part to make his community a better place in which to live, throughout a long and active life.

Funeral services were held Sunday, September 28, 1975, at 2 p.m. at the Center Chapel Church, with the Rev. John Cornish, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Gaylord Livesay was the organist. Pall bearers were Darrell Henry, Dwight DeHart, Leslie McLain, Richard Aylor, Lester Matheson and David Griffiths. Interment was in the Cneter Chapel Cemetery. Arrangments were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua.
