MRS. FLORENCE BATES

Mrs. Florence M. Bates, 86, died Sunday evening, August 11, in Van Buren County Memorial hospital after a short illness.

She was born August 2, 1888, in Jefferson county, the daughter of James and Emma Bram Bailey. She married Clarence Bates October 21, 1908, in Fairfield. Mrs. Batets belonged to the Birmingham Free Methodist church.

Surviving are the husband, two daughters, Mrs. Bernice Hird, Denver, Colo., Mrs. Henrietta Helfenstine, Peoria, Ariz.; one sister, Mrs. Irene Carlson, Fairfield; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are in charge of Burch Funeral Home, Birmingham.
