FRANCIS S. GILBERT

Francis Sterling Gilbert, 56, West Point, died at 2:20 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, at Veteran's hospital, Iowa City, following a lengthy illness.

He was born October 1, 1917, in Keosauqua, the son of Hugh and Ethel Towne Gilbert. He married Helen Aylor; later married Dorothy Vestal Himes July 21, 197. He lived in Bonaparte previously, was employed at the Iowa Army Ammunition plant, and was an Army veteran of World War II and member of American Legion of Bonaparte.

Surviving are the wife; two sons, Henry, Burlington, and Hugh, Des Moines; three daughters, Sally Hartburg, Portland, Ore., Frances Ann Donahoe, Ankeny, and Judith Bauckiman, San Antonio, Tex.; three step-daughters, Sherri Clark, Mt. Ayr; Shirley Losey, Farmington; and Barb Lyon, West Point; two stepsons, Wilbur and Danny Himes, both of Kahoka, Mo.; one brother, Hubert Gilbert, Keosauqua; one sister, Genevieve Kimmel, Milton; four grandchildren and 12 step-grandchildren.

Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, at the Bonaparte Presbyterian church. The Rev. Kenneth Hardin officiated. Burial was in Kilbourn cemetery, where military rites were performed.
