LESLIE MURDOCK EPPERLY

Leslie Murdock Epperly, age 65, died Monday evening, Oct. 29 at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City. He entered the hospital two weeks ago.

The son of William and Maude Murdock Epperly he was born February 3, 1908, at Milton where he graduated from high school. He was employed by Middle States, Central, Iowa, now General Telephone Company of the Midwest for 36 years, retiring last February. He moved to What Cheer from Sigourney nine years ago.

He was a member of the Christian Church in What Cheer, the Lions Club and the American Legion Club of What Cheer; also a member of the What Cheer Fire Department and a City Councilman. For many years he served as Santa Claus for Sigourney and What Cheer. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Marines.

On May 13, 1933, he was married to Musetta Alley at Burlington, and they were the parents of three children: Dean of Williamsburg, Martha Stout of Jacksonville, Fla., and Robert of Nevada.

Surviving in addition to his wife and children, are five grandchildren; two brothers, Harold of Huntsville, Ala., and Walter of Milton; one sister, Mrs. Alice Megrath of Keosauqua and his stepmother, Mrs. Pearl Epperly of Milton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Elmer.

Funeral services were Thursday, Nov. 1 at 11 a.m. at the Christian Church in What Cheer with Rev. Robert Flanagan officiating. Mrs. Gene Butler was the organist.

Burial was in the Springfield Cemetery near What Cheer.

Reynolds Funeral Chapel of Sigourney was in charge of the arrangements.
