Ronald Jay Bloomquist, 65, of Birmingham, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City.

Arrangements are pending at Behner Funeral Home & Crematory.

Ronald Jay 'Bloomer' Bloomquist

Ronald Jay "Bloomer" Bloomquist, 65, of Birmingham, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A memorial service is at 11 a.m. Saturday at Behner Funera Home & Crematory in Fairfield, with Jim Calhoun officiating. Burial of cremains will be at a later date.

A memorial fund has been established. Cards and memorials can be sent to 3018 E. 32nd Court, Des Moines 50317.

Mr. Bloomquist was born Aug. 9, 1948, in Fairfield, the son of Max LaVern and Vivian Wiseman Bloomquist.

He worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation in Ames and Fairfield as a bridge inspector.

He has lived in the Fairfield and Birmingham areas since 2002.

Survivors include three sons, Brian Bloomquist and spouse Megan Hultman, Daniel Bloomquist and David Bloomquist, all of Des Moines; one grandchild; and two brothers, Butch Bloomquist of Fairfield and Lonnie Bloomquist of Promise City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Caren Bloomquist.
