JAMES C. "Duff" GORDON

James C. "Duff" Gordon, son of James and Cora Vanatta Gordon, was born November 3, 1891 at Fairfield and departed this life Thursday, Sept. 27, 1973, at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 81.

On September 17, 1921, he was married to Eliza Bartholomew at Fairfield. They have farmed in Henry Township, Van Buren County throughout their married life.

Remaining to cherish his memory are Mrs. Gordon, their son Jack and daughter-in-law Rose of Ft. Madison, five grandchildren, Connie, James, Dennis, Theresa and Amy Lynn Gordon, a brother, Wilson Gordon of Lapel, Ind., three sisters, Mrs. Lidia Stansell of Fairfield, Mrs. Gail Rankin of Mt. Pleasant, and Mrs. Vanatta Grimes of Trura, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Don, in 1924, a son Dennis Duff in 1964 and a sister, Mrs. Hazel Strah.

Mr. Gardon(err) served in the United States Army in World War I and was a charter member of Sargeant-Osweiler Post No. 563, American Legion at Bonaparte. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, a good neighbor and a true friend.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 30, 1973, at 2 p.m. at the Center Chapel United Methodist Church south of Keosauqua, with the Rev. John Cornish, pastor officiating. Interment was in the Center Chapel Cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua.
