Charles S. Ellis

Charles S. Ellis, son of William and Angeline Drennen Ellis, was born July 23, 1882, near Keosauqua, and departed this life Tuesday, July 24, 1973 at the age of 91. His death was the result of an auto accident in Green County, Ia. In 1903 he was married to Sophia Seaman. To this union were born two children, Irene and Carl. They farmed in the Keosauqua and Cantril communities until 1955, at which time his wife suffered a massive stroke, and they lived with their son Carl and his wife until 1964. They moved in 1964 to Ames to live with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ray McBurney, 712 Eighth St. He was preceded in death by son Carl, an infant granddaughter and three sisters. One sister, Minnie, died in early womanhood. Also preceding him were Mrs. Nora Barker of Douds, and Mrs. Lena M. Daughrity Regur of Keosauqua.

Remaining to cherish his memory are his widow, the daughter, Mrs. Irene McBurney, and son-in-law, Ray McBurney, a granddaughter, Mrs. Ellen Kirk of St. Louis, Missouri, a great grandson, Eric Allen Kirk, other relatives and many friends.

Mr. Ellis was a member of the Keosauqua Christian Church.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 27, 1973 at 3 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Gerald Caughron officiating. Mrs. Harold Jamison was the soloist, accompanied by Mrs. George Carnahan. Pall bearers were Esco Menkle, David Lazenby, Stanley Strait, Earl Dixon, Charles Anson and Phillip Dorson. Interment was in the Fellows Cemetery near Keosauqua.
