Warren D. Sherwood

Warren Duard Sherwood, son of Warren and Hattie Jolley Sherwood, was born Nov. 18, 1888, in Milton, Iowa, and died on October 28, 1972, at the Scotland County Nursing Home in Memphis, Missouri, at the age of 83 years and eleven months.

He spent the greater part of his life in Milton, and on November 24, 1909, he was married to Ruth Cooley, who passed away on November 28, 1970, a few days after their 61st wedding anniversary.

Mr. Sherwood, before his retirement, was in the produce business in Milton for over 50 years, and was active in business and civic affairs of the town. He was a member of Milton Methodist Church. Warren served the town as Council and Mayor, was Town Treasurer for 17 years, School Treasurer for 15 years, and was a Mason for over 35 years.

Surviving are a son, Gerald, and a grandson, David Sherwood, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; also three half-sisters, Elizabeth Howell, Keosauqua, Luzon Coombs, Des Moines, and Ruth Emery, Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 30, at 1 P.M., in the Wellborn Funeral Home of Milton. Interment was in Sunnyside Cemetery at Milton.

Mrs. Carl Miller was organist. The pall bearers were Paul McBratney, John Oaks, Raymond Guinn, W.C. Strait, George Yahnke, and Russell Rippey.
