Clyde J. Ruble

Clyde J. Ruble, 76, a retired farmer and seed corn salesman, died Sunday at 6:35 a.m. at Ottumwa Hospital in Ottumwa. He had entered the hospital Thursday afternoon after suffering a broken hip in a fall at his Douds home.

He was born Jan. 1, 1896, at Selma, to James and Mildred Jackson Ruble. On Feb. 15, 1916, he married LaRue Downing at Ottumwa. They farmed between Selma and Douds until 1971, when they retire and moved to Douds.

He was a representative of the Pioneer Hybrid Corn Co. for 31 years. He was a longtime member of Celestial Lodge 413, A.F. & A.M., at Douds, the Twin City Chapter 258, Eastern Star, and the Douds Community Club.

Surviving are his widow; three sons, Clyde Jr. of Copan, Okla., Maurice of Bartlesville, Okla., and Jack of Ottumwa; two daughters, Mrs. Kathleen Crist of Silver City, and Mrs. Patricia Towles of Independence, Mo.; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

One son and three brothers preceded him in death.

The service was Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Gerald Caughron. Burial with Masonic rites were in Mount Moriah Cemetery.
