Bernard J. Wenke

Bernard J. Wenke, 54, of Mt. Sterling died unexpectedly at 8:30 a.m. Monday, October 30 at his home near Mt. Sterling of a heart attack.

He was born January 27, 1918 at Ft. Madison, the son of John and Clara Schroeder Wenke.

He was married on March 2, 1946 to Donna Jeanne Miller at Ft. Madison. He moved to Mt. Sterling ten years ago and was a farmer and employee of the Mt. Sterling Saw Mill.

He was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church Ft. Madison and was a W.W. II Veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Miller Wenke, Mt. Sterling, his mother, Clara E. Schroeder Wenke, Ft. Madison, three sons, Milton, Mt. Sterling, Rex and Eugene at home, three daughters, Mrs. Howard (Twila) Billingsley, Mt. Sterling, Mrs. Tom (Rita) Holden, Fairfield, and Mrs. Hugh (Anita) Gilbert, Des Moines, five brothers, John and Herman, Ft. Madison, William, Keosauqua, Ferdinand, Bonaparte and Henry, Argyle, four sisters, Mrs. Marion (Louise) Herrick, Keokuk, Mrs. Leonard (Anna) Rex, Bonaparte, Mrs. Oscar (Elizabeth) Moore, Montrose, and Mrs. Shirley (Mary) Lewis, Colona, Ill., and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 1 in the United Methodist Church, Farmington. Rev. Edward Maus and Fr. Gerald Hoenig will officiate. Burial will be in the Thompson Cemetery near Bonaparte. The rosary will be said by Fr. Gerald Hoenig Tuesday at 8 P.M. at the Miller-Hofbauer Funeral Home.

The body is at the Miller-Hofbauer Funeral Home in Farmington.
