Vern Hamlin

Vern Hamlin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Hamlin, was born Jan 27, 1885 at Exira, Iowa. He passed away June 9, 1972. He was raised in the Exira area where he attended public school.

He was married to Vannie Farrens, June 9, 1914 at Lincoln, Nebraska. As an engineer he worked on river straightening projects in Iowa and Nebraska almost twenty years. The family moved to Braddyville in 1925. He was elected to the city council in 1927, serving two terms then was elected mayor, serving fourteen consecutive terms.

He was a past member of the Lions Club of Braddyville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1957, and one brother.

He is survived by five sisters, Mrs. Maude Kreamer, Mrs. Claire McAinnch, Mrs. Delphine Carter, all of Exira, Iowa, Mrs. Carl (Evlyn) Hensley of Braddyville and Mrs. Edith Newland of Belle Plaine, Iowa; three brothers, Robert of Bonaparte, Iowa, Douglas of Farmington, Iowa, and Cecil of Chillicothe, Mo.; several nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, June 12, 1972 at the Braddyville Christian Church with the Rev. Carl Cummings officiating. Burial was in the Braddyville Cemetery.
