Mrs. Dewey Halberstadt

Mrs. Helen Halberstadt, daughter of Foster and Muriel Keller Van Steinburgh, was born in Cantril, Iowa, October 24, 1915. She spent her childhood there and graduated from the Cantril High School in 1933, and later from the Burlington Beauty School. In her youth, she had united with the Cantril Methodist Church.

On June 5, 1939, she was united in marriage to Hubert Halberstadt. They lived in Keosauqua, Iowa until the last five years which were spent in Cleark Lake, Iowa. There she was employed at the Cerro Gondo County Home.

Helen passed away at the age of 56 years, 8 months, and 10 days, on Monday morning, July 3, 1972, at the Mercy Hospital in Mason City, Iowa after several months' illness.

Her father preceded her in death on September 11, 1967.

She is survived by her husband, Hubert; one son, Raymond of Des Moines, Iowa; a daughter, Mrs. Douglas (JoAnn) Downing of Decorah, Iowa; her mother, Mrs. Foster Van Steinburgh of Cantril; a sister, Bert (Martha) Wellborn of Donnellson, Iowa; two grandsons, Jason and Matthew Halberstadt of Des and many friends Moines; as well as other relatives

Funeral services were held in Cantril United Methodist Church on Thursday, July 6, with Rev. Dale Church officiating under the direction of Catcott Funeral Home of Keosauqua, Iowa. Mrs. James Charbonneau sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Blessed Assurance" accompanied by Mrs. Eva Cretcher. The pall bearers were Kenneth Downard, Leo Dossett, Lawrence White, Mark McCoy, Charles Parish, Leroy Wright.

Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery of Cantril, Iowa.
