Services Today For Millie Nelson

Mrs. Mildred "Millie" Nelson, 96, died Tuesday at Jefferson Square Manor in Ottumwa where she had resided since February. The daughter of Jefferson and Nancy Morrison Whitten, she was born sept. 30, 1875, near Douds. She lived most of her life in the Douds community except for the past 16 years spent with her daughter in Keokuk and Eldon.

As a young women she taught school in the Douds-Leando community, later serving on the school board and for many years was secretary of Douds-Leando Telephone Co.

In 1903 she was married to Ellis Sanford, who died in 1923. In 1930 she married Frank Nelson, who died in 1941. Four sisters and 3 brothers preceded her in death.

Surviving re her daughter, Mrs. Mary Slutts of Eldon; two grandsons Conley Slutts of Eldon and Dennis of Lone Tree; six great-grandchildren and a brother Jay Whitten of Spokane, Wash. Also surviving are 3 step-sons, Floyd Nelson of Texas, Harold Nelson of Calif., Stanley Nelson of Earham, Ia., two step daughters, Mrs. Wilda Hartz of Ariz. and Mrs. Esther Ranick of Calif., and seven step grandchildren.

She was a member of Christ Methodist Church in Douds and its WSCS.

Services will be today, Thurs., at 2 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds with the Rev. Earl Menning of Eldon Christian Church officiating.

Interment will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery near Douds.
